Chemical Ban in Ontario

April 16, 2009

If you are use to using a weed control agent on your lawn in the spring it is now time to think again.  The Ontario government has passes a ban on over 250 chemicals once available to the homeowner in the province of Ontario.

This will of course change the way many of us treat our lawn this spring.  You will no longer be able to get a “weed and feed” type product with a chemical in it.  You may be able to get these products until April 22nd when the ban comes into effect, but you can be assured that the large chains will not be ordering new stock.  For complete details on the ban you can read them on the government of Ontario’s website.

Our next articles will include natural lawn care tips that can help you maintain a green weed free lawn without the use of chemical weed control.

Get a Free Tree

Why buy a tree when the city of Ottawa is handing them out for free.  As part of the City of Ottawa's Reforestation and Environmental Enhancement (TREE) Program the city of Ottawa is giving away free trees.  The program is a four year initiative that aims to enhance the City of Ottawa’s urban and rural forests through the planting of 100,000 trees between 2007 and 2010 and the best part is anyone can help out.

You can participate in the program by either picking up and planting a tree for yourself or suggestion a location for a new tree to be planted.  To get your own tree free of charge from the City all you need to do is register for a spring pick up, it is first come first serve basis.  If you miss out on it this spring you can always register for the fall program.

You need to visit The City of Ottawa's Website to register for your free tree.

The 15% tax credit applies to any amount spent above $1000 but no more than $10000, meaning the maximum tax credit available per household is $1350 on your 2009 taxes.  Read more about the tax credit.
